Tsinghua University: A Global Leader in Engineering and Community Engagement
Located in Beijing, China, Tsinghua University stands as one of the world’s premier institutions, consistently ranked among the top engineering universities globally. Among its many initiatives is the Summer Service and Learning Program (SSLP) in Rural China, a transformative opportunity launched in 2006. This program unites thousands of passionate students and faculty from Tsinghua and international universities, spreading knowledge, warmth, and encouragement to children in rural communities. Participants not only contribute meaningfully to the lives of these children but also gain profound insights into rural China and develop invaluable cross-cultural communication skills. Volunteering with SSLP is more than just an experience—it’s an opportunity to make a lasting impact and embark on a journey of personal growth and cultural discovery.
2016: My last Summer as an Undergraduate Mechanical Engineering Student
In 2016, I embarked on a life-changing journey as an international volunteer in China. During that summer, I had the privilege of helping elementary and middle-school children learn English, all while traveling across different provinces and fully immersing myself in the richness of Chinese culture. This experience was transformative, deepening my commitment to compassion and fairness and fueling my passion to make a positive difference in the world. It also reinforced my belief in the power of communication and the importance of fostering strong relationships between people from diverse cultures.
